Nepal - Thimi

For the second trip lead by VSN, we visited Thimi which is a Newari village known for it's pottery art and paper mask productions.

The visit was rather refreshing and a good getaway from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu city. Being a Newari village, the entire place is covered with the usual brick red architectures. The place was very quiet and tranquil, with the locals hard at work in the background, at their respective areas, moulding, shaping or cutting the clays.

In the clearing, there would be a big heap of sand used to fire the clays from within, thus transforming soft wet earth to a great piece of art! Squatting just next to the firing sand heap were some locals busying with their daily sorting and bundling of vegetables for sale.

Such is the simplicity of life...
